Registering your bike in Spain
I've been trying to find out how much it will cost to re-register a UK bike when I import it to Spain. I managed this for my car a few years ago, but rules keep changing.
Anyway, the "matriculation" tax (Impuesto Especial sobre Determinados Medios de Transporte) is based on 3 factors:
1. The original value of the bike
2. The depreciation percentage according to the age of the bike
3. The tax percentage based on the CO2 emissions.
The original value of the bike is set according to its cc. See page 212 of the attached link.
So a 680cc bike is given a nominal original value of 5,000 euro.
Now adjust the value for the age of the bike. See page 277 of the same link. Say the bike's between 1 and 2 years old - that's 87% of 5,000 which is 4,350 euro.
Finally if the bike's CO2 emissions are beween 100 and 120 g/km, you'll pay 9.75% of 4,350 which is 424 euro (many thanks to Mike Werner for the rates - see http://news.motorbiker.org/blogs.nsf/dx/spain-taxes-motorcycles-on-co2-emissions.htm)
Above example based on a Honda NTV700. Allow another 250 euros (say) for ITV (Spanish MOT) and various paperwork, and then compare the new and used prices in the UK and in Spain. Absolute no-brainer!
