Comfort and power...
Whilst the 'Ace was the original rival to the Blade and ZX9, it never matched the Blade and was quickly replaced by the R1. It then went on to be a psuedo-sport tourer (when this meant sportsbike also-ran). Hence, its more sports than comfort.
Triumph Sprints and VFR's are probably the best balance availalable at this cash level (though you may find the odd blackbird if you scour the ads enough). Both are safeish buys. GSX750Fs are around too - more comfort less power, and not, err, pretty . But you would need to watch for quality on these - my old 600F is well past the cheap to fix issues that bikes grow into..
Depending on how hard you push on the road, Fazer Thous and SV Thous may be a better bet for you. Though I'm not sure what condition you'd find for less than 2K .
My cousin recently bagged himself a ZX9, and loves it - rates it much higher than the RF9 he had previous. The only other bike I can think to suggest is a Firestorm. If you're prepared to deal with a few pricey issues over a period of time - new tyres, chain, head bearings - and don't mind tackling a couple of cosmentic mishaps, you could bag an early one for under £2k. May mean a slight adjustment to your riding style until all is well though " />. Rode my 600 for months with knackered bearings, tyres, chain and sprockets. All fine unless you're aiming for a new lap record " />
