Dont worry They will tell you when you pick it up.
**It should be in **
your manual, was on my bike. Must admit it will be tough without a rev counter
Rrunning a new bike in
As said above, the dealer should be able to advise, backed up by the user handbook, but it's simply a case of not over-revving and not letting it labour over the first few hundred miles,. Don't run for long periods at the same revs either. Don't forget to enjoy it!
Does adding PTFE to the oil help during running in or not?
Probably not. I remember a product called Molyslip, used when oils and engines were not quite as refined as today's. I can't remember why, but am sure that this product was not for use in running in. Using ptfe sounds like a similar concept.
this is how I do mine
first 500~600 miles:
plan each ride to be at least 20 miles to make sure the engine is hot & bedding takes place
use as low gear as possible and as much rev as it is recommended to work the engine without overloading it (eg use 3rd @ 5000 instead of 4th @ 4000)
The idea being that when the engine is hot, all the internals are fully expanded giving you the max seal between rings & cylinders, helping with the bedding in process & minimising oil getting passed & glazing the chamber
Do not add any additive to the oil at any point even after the running in & top up with the recommended grade of oil until the first change
running in - responses
many thanks for your pointers everyone much appreciated.
Now theres the official dealer way
And theres this.
i've used it and can vouch for it, but the choice is yours.
(I adjusted it for road running in and did it on my cheapie chinese crosser, partly bacause it was cheap and a replacement engine was cheap and also because it's the only new vehicle i've ever had, when I stripped the top end and barrel to check it was spotless, no blow by and clean as the site shows.)
Engine break in secrets
Read the whole thing and make sure you let it cool sufficiently between runs.
nice idea but ......
