Tech Three Trading Crutchlow for Smith?

British Moto2 rider Bradley Smith mentioned in his on-line blog that the
Monster Tech 3 Yamaha team is considering him for a promotion to MotoGP from its
Moto2 squad next season. Smith said no deal would be finalized before the Grand
Prix of San Marino on Sept. 4 in Misano.
Smith, who is seventh in the Moto2 standings, is in his first Moto2 season
after racing in 125cc from 2006-10. He recorded three consecutive podium
finishes earlier this season, at Silverstone, Assen and Mugello, to become the
first British rider in 39 years to record that feat in the intermediate World

American Colin Edwards II is on a one-year deal with the team, while Brit Cal
Crutchlow signed a deal last September for this season and 2012 with the
But Crutchlow's form has been dismal this summer, with six consecutive races
out of the top 10. Edwards is one of the most popular people in the MotoGP
paddock, and reports are swirling that Tech 3 boss Herve Poncharal is less than
pleased with Crutchlow.
Replacing Crutchlow with Smith would keep a coveted Brit on the MotoGP grid,
surely pleasing the UK rights holders at the BBC.
