Went for my mod 1 test yesterday and failed on the figure 8, totally gutted! the examiner said do the figure of 8 2 times then come over to me but don't worry if u forget how many times cause i'll wave u over. so when a though that was me done my 2 times a looked over at the examiner to see if he was gonna wave me over and he didn't, this then caused me misballance and my foot hit the deck for a split second! the thing that really annoys me is on practice for this a could do figure 8's all day long no probs, and the rest of the test went great without any othe minors! for all the bikers out there- a little question - when would u ever do a figure 8 twice on a road? and why is this deemed a serious fault putting ur foot down at very low speed on this manuever surely that has to be safer than letting the bike fall? well thats me done my rant! thanks for all thats reading this!

**Can't say a **
figure of 8 twice is a manouevre I use regularly on the road.
Prior to Mod 1 / Mod 2, putting a foot down on the U-turn was number one reason for test failure. Indeed, when I went for my test, there was a girl doing hers before me who did exactly that (not that she couldn't do it, she just lost her nerve on the test) and picked up no other faults.
I recall when I was doing mine, my instructor wanted a gear change exercise and asked me to do one more run, "I'm not saying you haven't done it, just that I haven't seen it" (he was busy concentrating on other people's performance). Went round again and he was quite happy with it (instructors and examiners are human too).
As far as I know, the low-speed manouevres are to check your bike control skills and balance (once the bike has some speed, it'll naturally balance anyway), that said I dare say there'll be instructors on here who'll correct me on this point if I'm wrong.
Have another go at your test, even if you do the figure of 8 3 or 4 times waiting for the examiner it doesn't (or shouldn't) matter .
Hope that helps.
Failed my mod 1 test
I found the same on my test, I actually did nearly 3 figure of 8s by the time he waved me over!
I failed my mod 1 on my swerve as a seagull pranced about on the bend and I stupidly slowed down not to run it over, then wellied the bike through the trap to get up to speed and hit a cone
I actually watched someone do the figure of 8 round the end yellow cone and the far blue and they picked up 2 minor faults but passed...
Retake the test, I did - it's much easier when you've done it once and know what to expect, plus aren't as nervous! Good luck with it and don't be put off!
Figure of 8
I do agree to an extend you tend not to figure of 8 when out riding.
I failed my Mod 1 test first time around on the U-turn - was pouring with rain, my hand slipped off the clutch - I shot forward breaked, put foot down and you know the rest!!
Took it again 1 week later and sailed through! As was said earlier - don't beat yourself up - you now know what to expect - use the experience!
And good luck!!!!
passed the mod 1 now!
thanks for the comments guys, took the advise onboard and as the header says - a've now passed the mod 1. This time a went to the opposite extreme on the figure 8 and took it really wide - neadless to say the examiner wasn't a happy bunny, gave me a right good tickin off n told me he wanted a decent tight figure 8, once i done it he was happy enough! the weather didn't help either cause it was pissin down big style so a was quite nervous thinking about the emergency stop! a would totally agree with grxgirl37 - u aint as nervous the second time round as u know what to expect! time to get mod 2 booked a think! thanks again for the comments people!
Well done, deffo easier second time round! good luck with the mod 2! Try to get an earlyish time if you can - I passed mine a fortnight ago in torrential rain, I was the last test of the day so he kept me out 50 minutes and we went 13 miles, my instructor back at the centre was starting to think I'd binned it somewhere! Mod 2 is so much easier, just keep calm, remember shoulder checks and dont do anything daft (at least till after you've passed and are on the ride home hehe)
It feels so good to have Mod 1 under your belt. As already said, Mod 2 is the part that you do everyday you are out on the bike. Take it steady and relax and dare I say it - enjoy it, show the examiner how good you are. Best of luck
passed mod 2
passed my mod 2 on the 19th september! a would defo say part 2 is alot easier than part 1 if u keep ur nerve! now the proud owner of an R6 n love the freedom! wish i done it years ago!
enjoy your new found freedom, ride safe and welcome to the fold.

Pah!!!! Failed my first attempt. All day yesterday I was convinced it would be down to U-Turns, and that the swerve/avoidance performance was excellent and SO easy (which I executed 'fantastically' yesterday) ....so, what did I do today on the test ? Executed a perfect U-Turn, and then just ever so slightly but enough, toe- clipped the blue cone coming out of the swerve test as I'd gunned it up to 38MPH - LEMON!
Mind you look at it this way if you are posting on a five year old thread then something must be wrong? just saying like.... my names Nev by the way.. .
