I have between £1,500 and £2,000 to spend on a 1980s-90s motorbike and have created a short list for which I would very much like your input on.
Some background - I am a fairly new motorcycle rider and am not keen on anything too high revving or fast. My main reason for having a motorbike is to get in and around London and the odd cross-country tour 2-4 times per year. I learnt to ride last year on a tYamaha TZR 125 and since then have had a CBR125, CB400 Superdream, a Kawasaki GPX250R and and Aprilia Pegaso 650.
I am now looking for something that is not too fast, has plenty of character, between 50-75hp, shaft drive if possible, capable of carrying the other half with ease and can have an array of boxes attached to it for travel. I like 80s/90s design and rectangular headlights!
My short list is as follows:
Honda CX 650 Eurosport
Honda CBX 550 F2
Kawasaki GPZ 750
I have not driven any of the above but have seen all of them in flesh. I have a preference towards 2 cylinder engines as I found my CB400 slightly dull but I suppose reliability and availability of spare parts is a key concern as I am not mechanically inclined.
Your thoughts and input on the above bikes would be much appreciated - any other suggestions very welcome.
Happy New Year!
