Hi all, I have recently purchased a Honda nt700va8 and it revs fine until we hit 5000rpm and then 'Hunts' to get past to little effect, I have ordered a new air filter to try what else should I try ?
Will not rev over 5000rpm

Welcome telll, all you and i can try is checking the air intake and exhaust system for a restriction, like a mouse nest, potato,or expandite foam. It`s a fuel injection engine but is the bike standard without any mods ?
Have you a one man band technician with his own garage and likes a challenge?
Is it common to find a potato in your intake, I have never looked so wouldn't know?" />
I used to have potatoes growing in my ears,so mother said.
Does the NT700
have an exhaust valve. If it has, I'd say it was stuck shut.
Has the bike been stood? Does it have carbs? Could be not enough fuel getting through.
Hi all, thanks for the replies.
The bike is standard, is fuel injection and may have been stood for a while as it has only done 600 miles since MOT in July 2012. I think all engines have exhaust valves. Can't find any potatoes.
I will try New air filter/plugs and check the leads at the weekend.
steveb is talking about an exhaust valve in the exhaust system for carb models on some bikes,if your intake and exhaust system is clear then it could be one of many sensors giving wrong info to the fuelling which i nothing about.
As my last sentence in first post.
Thankyou for your reply.
If the bike has not been used/stored for a while the injectors could be partly blocked and fuel shortage with advancing ignition timing ,again i`m not sure.
kcmc will have more idea.
What a difference an air filter makes
All fine now thankyou all for your input
