Hello everyone. Attached are some photos of the rear roadsmart on my gsxr. As you can see its started to wear quite strangely. Any ideas as to why and do you think it's ok to ride.

That's not abnormal. Might need to adjust the rear suspension.
As said,looks like the monoshock is not working properly,if your 8st or 50kg wet through try the lightest setting with 36 psi in the rear.
Is that on the gixxer thou' k8 that won't rev? I've got though four sets of roadsmarts on mine, now trying Z8s for a change. Mine's un-modded and the STVs hold it back in lower gears, giving the tyre a just-hard-enough time, rarely spinning up in the dry unless very cold. I've had some odd wear patterns, but no tears.
Does it continue all the way round or is it an isolated patch? Is the tread round, like really round, or is there a low spot?
How old is the tyre, what kind of use?
Have you adjusted you suspension or are you on standard settings?
Hi BB, it is indeed the same K8 that doesn't rev through - however we've made some progress on that. We took of the tank and removed the fuel pump. The tea bag like filter was clogged to buggery with rust flakes and crap. It's had a clean and been put back in whilst waiting a new filter.....and it's much better although not perfect. Going to have the tank cleaned and treated.
The tyre is about 16 months old but it has been sitting for a while. It has around 4-6k on it at a guess. It's like that all of the way around the centre but fine elsewhere.
The suspension is on the original setting.
Too much compression and/or rebound - that seems to be how they're set up out of the box, not ideal for bumpy tracks.. ..or real roads? I had mine professionally tweaked on track - the surprise answer was less damping - felt a bit weird at first, a lot more movement both ends but no bottoming - the forks are sprung for an elephant after all. The tweaks, and fine tuning the pressures, saved a rapidly dying rear (BT015) tyre which went on to survive three days.
Back home roadsmarts felt a lot more compliant at normal road pressures than BT015s. Could suspension that's a bit on the stiff side for the stiffer bridgestones be giving the supple roadsmarts a hard time?
Too much gas on a cold tyre on shell grip or such, literally shearing the rubber? Maybe a one off event inflicted the initial damage?
I didn't go off the roadsmarts, I just hoped the z8 might feel as good and square off a bit more gracefully. Felt odd at first, a bit ponderous at the front, but they've improved over 2-3k. Jury out on longevity, but minimal wear bodes well, and the cold and wet grip is amazing.
I've contacted Dunlop
and sent then the photographs of the tyre. It seems I have to return to Autosafe Maldon. They will return them to Dunlop to be inspected and a may get some money back if they are faulty.
Dunlop were helpful. They called first and followed up with the email below.
Our motorcycle tyres are warranted for 5 years from date of manufacture or
date of purchase if proof can be shown. The warranty covers manufacturing
and materials but not accidental damage natural wear etc caused during use.
We offer a tyre inspection service for any tyre dealer or member of the
public. Motorcycle main agents and tyre dealers can send tyres back for
inspection if they have an account with us. If they do not have an account
the return can be made through their wholesaler who will then arrange to
return the tyre here on their behalf. With regards to returns it is always
best to give the product to the retailer who took your money for it when
new. This best covers you under the sale of goods act. If this is not
possible many dealers will return a tyre under warranty as long as you are
purchasing the replacement from them. Before buying the replacement you
will need to ensure they are aware you wish them to return the tyres as
part of the deal and reflect any allowance should one be advised.
Should we during our inspection give an allowance (allowances granted are
not an admission of liability) it will be % based and is worked out using
the remaining tread depth of the tyre. We then advise the recommended
allowance to the account holder by letter. A letter advising you of the
results is also sent as long as your name and address have been included on
the complaint form that dealers raise. If the dealer has no forms or
electronic version on their computer they can obtain pads from the BTMA on

us. It will be based on their purchase price of the tyre from us. Most
dealers will then normally reflect that allowance back to their customer
based on their payment price should of course the tyre or a replacement
tyre have been brought from them. You will need to speak to your dealer
