that awkward moment when you post up a very well worded message up and it asks you to log back in and you lose it... woooohooo! oh well round 2.
right so this is a strange one... basically i'm a bmxer who also rides bikes and as you can imagine it's always either one or the other... but i want both! " />
i've seen a few homebrew rack/trailer efforts but they all seem to be stateside and i've been thinking about putting one together for a couple of months now so here's a couple that i've seen just for a reference as to what i'm looking to achieve:
if you search it up theres dozens more
so anyway, originally i was intending to make a clamp which attached the frame to the grabrail and then brace it appropriately... i got the bmx out to get an idea of sizing and how it would best work and ended up with it upside down parallel with the bike, back wheel about a foot off the back, seat on the grab rail, bars on the pillion all (if you catch my drift) all secured up with a couple of bungee chords, (so i could sit on it for an idea of space) it was surprisingly sturdy! doesn't sway and i can lift the back end with it! i took it out for a wee night right just to test it out, can surely say it was barely noticeable! well other than the headlight being up a notch or two " /> might just keep it that way for now but i do intent to fabricate something up.
it looks somewhat dubious to any outsider though which is coming to the point i'm looking to raise.
the legality of it, if it looks dubious then i'm more likely to be pulled up on it by the police and there is no information available to either confirm that it is legal or otherwise. basically if it is deemed to be a 'dangerous load' or otherwise, i would get done for 'driving dangerously' which means a potential fine & 3-6 points = losing my licence. on the plus side i wouldn't have to choose between bikes that way
only going to use it like once or twice a week, i'm planning to pop in to the local station and enquire about such things before i start using it, saying that they could give it the an all clear (in photograph form ) and half a mile down the road meet a policemanofficer' who doesn't quite concur.
have you got a bike rack yourself, seen one elsewhere, understand the legality of it in the uk, think it's a great idea, think it's a terrible idea, all of the above haha well chime in and let me know what you've got to say.
