For reasons known only to myself (ok so I want to go and play airsoft again - it's like paintball but less serious (a LOT less serious where I used to go, more of a day of dicking about with bb guns and things that go bang) but a lot more tactical as you can have long range hidey sneeky snipers, slow support gunners, close range people with sub machine guns who are fast and light, etc). I want to cart about an L85 assault rifle and / or an L96 sniper (dismantled). Now the longest of these is the barrel / receiver section of the L96 at about 890mm - I'm waiting for a shop to get back to me with an exact measurement. This means that the only way I can think to carry them is to strap a case to the back seat and along the luggage rack but it would still hang off the end of the bike by about 12 or so inches. Would this be an issue with cops and unsafe load carrying or would it be okay? The other option I can think of is to carry it on my back but it'd be about 18 inches above my head and keep hitting my helmet if it was straight up and be wobbly if at 45 degrees, i.e. shoulder-hip. I doubt it'd be stable in the wind or when leaning the bike if on my back never mind the attention it would draw. Obviously whilst I'm doing nothing wrong it'd be a pain to be stopped by the cops, have them ring the armed response guys to come and check they're not real, check my paperwork and ring the site to prove I'm booked in for a game of go shooty people.
I'd get something smaller like an SMG that could fit in a backpack but my legs being the dicks that they are mean the only way I'm going to get back to hobbies, etc is to change how I do them so for airsoft this means taking on a sniper role so there's less movement required and a lot less weight (my old assault kit means I have to carry about 9 magazines for the L85, plus spare ammo, plus grenades and smokes) whilst if sniping I'd burn through a lot less ammunition, and need only a couple of magazines in that I'd be going for one shot one kill with time to reload the magazines rather than carry several heavy lumps of metal) plus I'd not be able to charge forward even if I wanted to as for safety reasons snipers are limited to a 20 meter minimum shooting distance. If nothing else, I can use it as a somewhat unique walking stick.
I could try bagsying a lift of people but I want to try and be able to get there myself so I can go later if it's a bad pain morning so any ideas as to how I could carry these things safely and without drawing undue attention would be appreciated. Ideally I'd be carrying just the sniper gun in future but for the first time back I'd like to take old faithful as well in case I run into problems or end up finding that sniping sucks.
("Get a car" isn't an option as I can't afford both bike and car and the bike is the better option for me for work as I can't park a car there unless I pay a fortune).
