I was wondering if I could ask anyone for a bit of advice in how to remove the fuel cap from the tank.
All of a sudden I can no longer get my key to fit fully into the lock and consequently I am unable to open and fill up the tank. I think it is corrosion related. I have tried penetrating oils etc but have had no joy.
I have pretty much resigned myself to having to fit a new cap but am not entirely sure how or if it would be possible to get it off.
It is one of the push locks on a Honda CB500 V (see pic). The outer ring surrounding the actual cap has allen bolts that I can remove. The ring then rotates with the central cap just less than 180 degrees and does lift up a little but has a flange underneath that prevents its removal. The cap won't come out of the tank as I presume it still has an internal locking device within the tank itself. Essentially is the lock going to need drilled? I was hoping to be able to do it myself rather than have to pay a garage to remove it but am starting to think this might not be feasible.
